GLAESA stands for the Grand Ledge Area Emergency Services Authority.
GLAESA is an independent fire authority that was established in the 1990s. At that time, it included the City of Grand Ledge, Eagle Township, Oneida Township, and Watertown Township. Over time, Eagle and Watertown Townships formed their own department, now known as the Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority.
Today, GLAESA continues to serve the City of Grand Ledge and Oneida Townships by providing both fire protection and emergency medical (EMT) services.
On May 5, 2026, voters in the Grand Ledge Area Emergency Services Authority (GLAESA) service area will decide whether to approve a bond proposal to support public safety improvements. Specifically, the proposal asks voters to authorize GLAESA to issue up to $22,590,000 in bonds, to be repaid over a period of up to 20 years.
If approved, the bond would fund several projects, including the construction of two fire stations, the purchase of fire apparatus and emergency response equipment, and the completion of site improvements and related infrastructure. The proposal also allows for the acquisition of land interests and rights-of-way, if necessary. Importantly, any bond funds could only be used for the purposes approved by voters.
